I'm just now replaying the series after at least 5 years of absence so I'll preface this by saying that my memory may be rusty: What do you think about the presence of the Reapers throughout the franchise? ME3 was the time for the Reapers to be the bad guys with no intermediaries and they are almost missing as a physical menace.Īnyway, rant over.
I'm not saying there should have been a Reaper conclave, but maybe identifying a few more capital ships and actually engaging with any of them at some point would have been nice. Most of the time they are wreaking havoc in the background. In some occasions, like Tuchanka, it's epic, but the fight in Rannoch is a bit ridiculous. For example, why aren't there any more Capital-class Reapers? It's only ever Harbinger you hear about (and even then, only a few times), and all the direct confrontations pit you against smaller Reapers. In ME3 they are the most physically present but I feel like they were never properly used. That's fine, I don't find it to be a problem, but Harbinger has become a bit of a joke for meaninglessly trash-talking you throughout the entire game. In ME2 they took a massive step back for a more character-driven story and the Collectors are the main antagonists. In ME1 they were epic incomprehensible monstrosities from the void and I've seen a few comments saying the conversation with Sovereign is the highest point in the trilogy, and generally I agree. I've always felt like the Reapers lost a lot of steam in ME3.
